'He Made The Stars Also' by James Richards
One of the things that blows my mind the most about God is the enormity of some of the objects He has created, not least of these being the stars. I believe that thinking about the sheer size of the stars keeps our perspective of who God is in focus, and protects us from putting a box around Him when even the heavens of heavens cannot contain Him!
The closest star to us is the Sun and it makes up over 99% of our solar system. The diameter of the sun is 1.4 million kilometres, which means that you could line up 109 earths side by side across the suns' disc. If the sun was a giant hamster ball, then you could fit 1.3 million (yes I did say million) earths inside it with room to spare! However, even our Sun is nothing compared to the largest known star in the Universe. The Star VY Canis Majoris has recently been calculated at over 2,000 times larger than our Sun!
I painted 'He Made The Stars Also' for my wife Naomi on her birthday in 2006. It is a picture of a star, but it was taken through a special lens because the star was so bright! The lens is in the shape of a Cross, which reminds me that the same God who made the Stars was also willing to send His only Son Jesus to this earth to die for my sins so that I could know Him. And if He made things as amazing as the stars, are there any problems in my life that He can't deal with?
