'No Strings' by James Richards
Before I became a Christian, one of the things that intrigued me was astronomy.
I remember once being onboard HMS Ocean in the Mediterranean Sea and looking up. Man it was crisp! Stars just covered the whole sky. On the 8th June 2004 I met with the Jesus, the Creator of the stars and I saw for the first time that He died in my place, to rescue me from my sins.
The next day was an event called the Transit of Venus. It's when the planet Venus can be seen crossing the Sun (Google it!). I know it might sound arrogant (and possibly insane) to some astronomers, but I really believe that was a Birthday present to me from God! That's how much He loves His kids! As I sat there and watched it, instead of wondering what life was all about, I found myself in a real living relationship with the One who was controlling that event.
A few months later, I found this really cool verse in a book in the Bible called Job - "He hangs the earth on nothing" (Job 26 v7). What a God! - He doesn't need anything to hang the earth on, because He can hang it on nothing! He's that powerful.
That verse inspired me to paint this painting, now aptly titled 'No Strings'.
