Genesis Week 12: Abraham – The Test

Posted by Simon Matheson in All Blog Posts, Genesis, News. Comments Off on Genesis Week 12: Abraham – The Test

10th January

This week we saw Abraham’s faith stretched almost as far as it could possibly be as he’s asked to sacrifice the son who he had waited so many long years to receive. Despite the enormity of what he’s asked to do we see Abraham obey implicitly, trusting in his God to provide. 3rd January

This week we finally saw the birth of the Son of Promise after 20 years of waiting for Abraham and Sarah, and we reflected on their journey since God had first called them away from their family to be part of His great rescue plan for His world. A Prayer for the Weary Soul

Posted by admin in All Blog Posts, News. Comments Off on A Prayer for the Weary Soul

27th December

This morning I preached a sermon called Rest for the Weary, looking at the words of Jesus in Matthew 11v28-30. I closed the sermon by sharing a prayer that was posted by Scotty Smith on The Gospel Coalition website. I thought I would share it here:

Most gracious Jesus, I’m lacing up my running shoes this morning to come to you as fast as I can. Your gentle, lowly heart is simply irresistible to me. Your easy yoke and light burden are flashing with neon brilliance, and I will gladly shoulder up. Your promise of rest for my soul has never been more appealing, timely or needed, for I am un-rested and restless as I begin my day. I praise you for being so welcoming… so understanding… so kind.

Jesus, the burden and confusion I’m feeling are clearly connected to old wounds with lingering pain. … Read More »

Important news from Pastor Dai

23rd November

This is a little post that contains some BIG news!

Last night Michelle and I shared with our ‘sending’ church, Highfields, some news that we have already announced to our ‘home’ church Hill City – that we believe that God has called us to move back to Cardiff to plant a new church in a very diverse, transient and challenging area of the inner-city.

This is not a flash-in-the-pan decision. Far from it! In fact it goes all the way back to a powerful, supernatural encounter that I had with God back in April 2012. This encounter literally changed my life in a range of ways. It’s where Red Community and my passion for human trafficking ministry originate from. It’s also where this call to plant a new church finds its roots. I don’t believe that this blog is the right place to unpack all the specifics though I will be happy to share the … Read More »

Genesis Week 9: Abraham – Circumcision

Posted by Simon Matheson in All Blog Posts, Genesis, News. Comments Off on Genesis Week 9: Abraham – Circumcision

22nd November

This week we saw God give Abraham the sign of Circumcision – the sign of His covenant with him. We also saw the symbolism of this in the New Testament teaching of the new birth. Below is a video of ‘I know who I am’ by Israel Houghton and Chris Tomlin, and also a link to download this weeks notes.

9th November

We continue to look at the life of Abraham as God confirms to him the promise He has made, but explains the journey to its fulfilment won’t be quite as simple as it could have been. Below is the video to ‘Great is your faithfulness’ by Martin Smith and a link to download this weeks notes.

Genesis Week 7: Abraham – The Promise

2nd November

We begin a journey looking at the life of Abraham that started with the amazing promise God gave to bless him and make his name great.  Abraham responded in faith by believing God and was obedient to the accompanying command. Below is the video of ‘I will follow’ by Chris Tomlin, as well as a link to the weeks notes.

Genesis Week 6: Babel

Posted by Simon Matheson in All Blog Posts, Genesis, News. Comments Off on Genesis Week 6: Babel

25th October

This week we saw the continuing corruption of the hearts of men following the flood as they tried to build a tower to reach heaven. Thankfully we also saw that we don’t need to reach up to heaven – heaven has come down to us. Below is the video to ‘Humble King’ by Brenton Brown, and also a link to download this weeks notes.

The Engine Room

Posted by admin in All Blog Posts, Events. Comments Off on The Engine Room

22nd October

As a church we need to pray more, not only for our own personal and pastoral issues, but also for our communities, our valley, for salvation and for revival.

Prayer is the engine that drives the church. Therefore, starting on Friday 6th November we are launching ‘The Engine Room’ – a monthly half-night of prayer. The Engine Room will take place at The Hope Centre and will run from 6pm until 12pm. Some may want to come and pray for the whole time. Others may want to come and just pray for a section of it. However, our desire is that ALL members of Hill City join with us as we press-in, cry out, reach up and seek God together. Christians from other local churches are also very welcome to join us.

If we don’t pray we cannot expect God to move in our church … Read More »
