Our desire is to be a church that plants churches that plant churches. This time last year we sent 2 couples to the Rhondda valleys to plant a new church and this year we have several projects in the pipeline. One of the areas that we will be planting is the Taff Bargoed Valley. Simon Matheson, who is heading up the church plant, explains more:
The Taff Bargoed Valley must be one of the smallest of the Welsh valleys. Home to not many more than 10,000 people in the villages of Nelson, Treharris, Trelewis, and Bedlinog, you could be forgiven for not even knowing of its existence. The area is beautiful, especially the Taff Bargoed Park running through the centre of the valley, but as with much of the valleys, many of the common problems associated with the closure of the … Read More »
Earlier this year one of our members, Margaret Davies, set about the colossal task of knitting puppets for all 125(ish) kids of the Compassion project that we partner with in Burkina Faso. As you can see from the photos and the letter below – it was a gift that has been very well received and touched many hearts.
Well done Margaret and thank you for all your hard work and dedication!
The Courageous conference for men was a huge success. Around 200 men gathered together at the Congress Theatre in Cwmbran for worship, fellowship and solid Bible teaching from Gavin Peacock, Mez McConnell and Dai Hankey.
There were also seminars with Rob Parsons, James Richards and Nathan Davies.
The response to the day has been overwhelmingly positive and we have received numerous requests to host another Courageous conference next year. The steering committee will make a decision about whether to host Courageous in 2014 in due course. In the meantime, we are delighted to make videos of all of the teaching sessions, along with two of the seminars, available to you. We pray that they will be a blessing to you.
Sunday 3rd November was an exciting day for us at Hill City Church as we launched our fourth gospel community. The location: Thornhill, Cwmbran. It was exciting on so many levels…
Firstly, because it’s our first gospel community outside Pontypool. Our vision is to be a church that reaches into every community in this valley that doesn’t have a gospel witness, establishing a community of grace to live, love and serve in those communities. We are so excited to finally launch a GC in Cwmbran. Secondly, because when Hill City was launched several years ago there were 3 communities in the Eastern Valley that we were passionate about reaching out to. We now have a gospel community in all 3! Praise God. Finally, it was great to once again put mission on display and remind our growing Sunday gathering that we’re about … Read More »
On Saturday 28th September 2013 it was our joy to host a day conference at the Hope Centre called Serving Without Sinking. The speaker for the day was John Hindley, author of the book Serving Without Sinking. The day consisted of sung worship, three teaching sessions and plenty of time to discuss what we’d been learning over coffee. The teaching was phenomenal! Gentle and yet profoundly challenging. Pretty much everyone who attended left blessed, provoked and encouraged.
The audio is now online and is highly recommended.
You can find it here.
A few months ago Pastor Dai took a bunch of excited Hill City kids along to Shockwave Studio in Cardiff to record a track. It was a great day and the kids really enjoyed themselves. You can no listen to the track “Building Blocks” below, and if you’d like to download it for free you can do so here.
We have a lot of exciting stuff ahead of us at Hill City Church throughout year. Details will be posted here:
Over the past 18 months Pastor Dai (a.k.a Truemcee) has been visiting Shockwave Studio in Cardiff to record tracks for a brand new album called Lyrical Liturgy. The album is NOW AVAILABLE for FREE download here.
Below is a pre-release version of one of the tracks of the album ‘No Longer a Slave’.
Serving Without Sinking by John Hindley is a timely, practical and encouraging book that every Christian who is engaged in ministry of any kind should read.
This is a review by Nathan Davies:
Living in the most depressed place in the UK can prove to be a challenge to my joy. Torfaen has the highest use of anti depressants (103 per 1000 prescriptions) in the country and living here means that finding joy is tougher than usual.
Joy, after love, is the second fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22-23 and therefore must be of high importance in the Christian life. However in the Western world of Christianity I really do not see a lot of outward joy. Why is this?!
I need to fight for joy in a world of depression. This usually involves reminding myself of what God has done … Read More »
Great news from our partner church in Burkina Faso! The Compassion classroom project has now been completed, providing much needed new facilities and creating opportunities for scores more children from the Paspanga community to receive invaluable education, food, health care and Christian love. Thanks to all who have been involved in helping to raise funds for this project – your money has already made a HUGE difference to the lives of so many precious kids. HOWEVER, there is still much to be done and funds still to be raised in order for us to fulfil our commitments to seeing this project through to completion.
More fund-raising news coming soon.
