22nd February

This week we began our study of the life of Joseph as broken relationships within his family set his life off on a difficult trajectory. All the time however God is in control and working out His perfect plan. Below is the video to ‘Sovereign Over Us’ by Aaron Keyes, and a link to download this weeks notes.

7th February

This week we saw in many ways the culmination of Jacob’s journey away from manipulating schemer, and towards being the man God wanted him to be as God Himself comes to wrestle Jacob as he faces the prospect of meeting a vengeful Esau on his journey home. Some thoughts on Prayer & Fasting

Posted by admin in All Blog Posts, News. Comments Off on Some thoughts on Prayer & Fasting

1st February

Following our week of prayer and fasting at the beginning of the year we had a request for some teaching about how to pray and fast to be made available online. Here are some thoughts on prayer and fasting by Sophie Toovey.

Fasting shows us we need prayer (and ultimately, God!) more than we need food.
When you fast, it’s amazing how quickly your body just craves food. You feel such a powerful hunger. It’s why fasting is so hard! But this hunger is a strong reminder to us that actually, we need prayer and we need God more than we even need food. We don’t often feel how strong our need for prayer is. Fasting gives us a very strong reminder: if this is how I feel when I go without food, how can I think I can ‘get by’ without prayer? … Read More »

Posted by Simon Matheson in All Blog Posts, Genesis, News. Comments Off on Genesis Week 14: Jacob – The Birth of a Schemer

27th January

This week we were introduced to Jacob, who we’ll be studying for the next few weeks. He begins with a fervent desire to be blessed in his life, but we see him going about it in completely the wrong ways. Below is the video for ‘Awesome God You are’ by Matt Redman, and a link the download this weeks notes.

Bikes for Refugees

Posted by admin in All Blog Posts, News. Comments Off on Bikes for Refugees

21st January

Friends, I was delighted when I learned last month that Torfaen is providing accommodation for several families from war-torn Syria who have sought refuge in Wales. As soon as this was announced I felt compelled that we as a church should do whatever we can to welcome them into our community and to help them settle.

As you can imagine, I was thrilled to be approached today and asked if we could help to provide some bicycles for the children in these families. Therefore this post is really an appeal to ask if you could help to provide some bikes for these precious kids. Do you or your friends / family have any bikes that have been outgrown or remain unused? We are happy to take second hand bikes but would ask that they are good quality and in decent working order. The bikes that we need are as … Read More »

Genesis Week 12: Abraham – The Test

Posted by Simon Matheson in All Blog Posts, Genesis, News. Comments Off on Genesis Week 12: Abraham – The Test

10th January

This week we saw Abraham’s faith stretched almost as far as it could possibly be as he’s asked to sacrifice the son who he had waited so many long years to receive. Despite the enormity of what he’s asked to do we see Abraham obey implicitly, trusting in his God to provide. Below is the video to ‘I surrender all (All to Jesus)’ by Casting Crowns and a link to this weeks notes.

This week we finally saw the birth of the Son of Promise after 20 years of waiting for Abraham and Sarah, and we reflected on their journey since God had first called them away from their family to be part of His great rescue plan for His world.
