On Saturday the 13th of September 2008, a small number of Hill City men walked up Pen-y-Fan, South Wales' answer to Everest. At least, that's what it felt like after about 10 minutes. We were put to shame by some old Scottish guys who were flying up and down the slopes in their kilts without breaking sweat whilst Dai lay crippled by blisters and begging for plasters from kind passers-by.
The view from the summit was unbelievable. We felt like we were on the top of the world as we surveyed the landscape before us, stretching from the Severn estuary across the valleys to the south, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire to the east, Brecon and mid-Wales to the north and the rest of the beacons to the west. From that vantage point you really can appreciate the awesome scale and majesty of God's creation.
Having worked hard to get up and down the mountain, the burger-van at the bottom provided some much needed and well-earned grub. There is nothing like a greasy burger to help restore heavily exercised bodies to their full figure.
The day was a great time of getting to know one another better, toning up our muscular frames and witnessing the beautiful and magnificent work of God's hands. Once mighty, Pen-y-Fan has now been conquered by the men of Hill City Church, reinforcing our macho status for several months to come.
Some of the guys from Hill City Church went to the Brecon Beacons to walk up the mountains and get to know each other more. It was a blessing to see what God has created.
